EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is preferred.
- Experience in the field of human services is strongly preferred.

JOB SUMMARY
The Behavioral Intervention Specialist assists interventions by observations, completing behavioral charts, educating staff, reviewing reports, and other specific tasks in order for our customers to be successful in maintaining their independence.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Attend all clinical rounds conducted and provide insight on various interventions that can be taught to staff to be used with assigned customers in order to decrease the number of incidents occurring.
- Attend customer specific meetings as assigned that review recent incidents, interfering behaviors, and other present concerns that the interdisciplinary team has that may be impeding the success of the customer.
- Provide weekly reports to the Behavior Intervention Supervisor in regards to the caseload assigned and a review of customer specific interventions.
- Complete daily contact notes with assigned customers and turn in weekly to supervisor.
- Complete customer Behavioral Intervention charts that will be kept in a separate locked filing cabinet in the chart room.
- Assist in devising a plan with the team to have successful outcomes regarding customer interaction, assist in plan developing regarding positive daily living and successful community interactions.
- Collaborate with customer team to assist and support customer with entities as needed including but not limited to ongoing rights restrictions, goals, guidelines, etc.
- Attend staff meetings or work at the site in order to educate staff and/or model for staff how to implement interventions indicated to be successful in the customer Service Plan, Behavioral Plan, Crisis and Safety Plans and Restrictions.
- Hands on work in the site to gather data on visual observation of individual customers challenging symptoms and interfering behaviors that will lead to the creation of successful interventions or behavior modification plans.
- Frequent site visits to homes in which customers with challenging and/or interfering behaviors reside to determine to what extent the environmental factors play a role in the occurrence of the symptoms (cleanliness, structure/routine, organization, social involvement).
- Anytime that a customer utilizes the Behavior Support Specialist a documented timeline of all interventions, meetings, trainings, etc. that take place will be stored on assigned computer.
PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS
- Ability to lift and carry:
- up to 25 lbs. frequently.
- up to 40 lbs. occasionally.
- over 40 lbs. rarely.
- Ability to climb stairs while carrying objects.
- Normal vision with correction.
- Normal range of hearing with corrections.
- Frequently perform daily duties which involve standing, bending, pivoting, squatting, kneeling, and crouching.
