EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE
- A minimum of 60 contact hours of training in intensive psychiatric rehabilitation and either:
- Certified as a psychiatric rehabilitation practitioner by the United States Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association; or
- Bachelor’s degree with 30 semester hours or equivalent quarter hours in a human services field (including, but not limited to, psychology, social work, mental health counseling, marriage and family therapy, nursing, education, occupational therapy, and recreational therapy)
- At least one year of experience in the delivery of services to the population groups that the person is hired to serve.
- Must have a valid drivers’ license, a safe driving record, and proof of adequate automobile insurance.
JOB SUMMARY
The Intensive Psychiatric Rehabilitation (IPR) Practitioner is responsible for assisting individuals with a diagnosed mental illness in obtaining success and satisfaction within the individual’s chosen goal environment. Chosen goal environments include living, learning, social, and working environments. The IPR Practitioner provides rehabilitative services based upon psychiatric rehabilitation practices adopted by the State of Iowa and Optimae LifeServices. The services may be provided in groups and/or individually to the individuals being served. The IPR Practitioner is also responsible for securing funding for the services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
SERVICE DELIVERY
- Educate customer’s systematic approach to making changes in their chosen living, learning social and working environments.
- Develop readiness assessments.
- Develop and follow the service plan and use it as a guide to deliver services.
- Deliver IPR services based upon curriculum and strategies adopted by Optimae LifeServices.
- Develop and implement strategies to increase individuals’ readiness to choose and achieve their goals.
- Develop and implement strategies to teach needed skills and to acquire needed resources.
- Develop a strong, trusting working relationship with the individuals served through ongoing engagement.
- Recognize and document goal progress and relevant personal interventions in an objective, clear, and brief manner.
- Secure funding.
- Complete all required paperwork and responsibilities in accordance with regulations and Optimae LifeServices policies and procedures.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES AS A RESOURCE AND POINT OF ACCESS
- Support customers as they identify and build natural supports.
- Promote role recovery/discovery to others.
- Set up appointments and meetings that meet customer needs.
- Stay updated with available local community resources.
- Use your personal vehicle, natural supports, or public transportation to assist customer’s transportation needs and reinforce the use of supports occurring naturally in the environment.
- Encourage community participation to promote community inclusion of people we serve.
- Understand and maintain confidentiality, demonstrate respect, and advocate for rights of people we serve.
- Address emergencies as they arise and use on-call staff for crisis intervention as needed.
- Find and promote assistive technology devices as needed.
- Occasionally clean up urine, feces, vomit, on property and from people as needed, while respecting their dignity.

TIME MANAGEMENT
- Meet multiple demands simultaneously and efficiently with little supervision.
- Consistently finish assigned tasks within designated time frames.
- Be flexible as customer needs, emotions and schedules change, including working evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Produce a schedule that meets customer wants and needs and meets billable hour requirements as a team.
- Complete timesheets/payroll in a timely manner.
- Attend mandatory meetings.
- Complete and turn in Expense Forms on time.
- Complete reports and all required paperwork within designated times.
ORIENTATION, TRAINING, AND STAFF DEVELOPMENT
- Complete orientation trainings in a timely manner.
- Complete 60 hours IPR Training prior to delivery of IPR services.
- Attend monthly coaching sessions to develop skills.
- Attend quarterly IPR face to face meetings.
- Complete annual trainings.
- Participate in annual evaluations.
- Attend mandatory reporter training within six (6) months then every five (5) years.
- Attend additional training as determined by the supervisor.
- Other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS
- Ability to lift and carry:
- up to 25 lbs. occasionally
- up to 40 lbs. rarely
- Ability to climb stairs while carrying objects.
- Normal vision with correction.
- Normal range of hearing with corrections.
- Frequently perform daily duties which involve standing, bending, pivoting, squatting, kneeling, and crouching.
