EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred, but not required.
- Some laundry and commercial sewing experience is desirable, but not required. On-the-job training will be provided.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities :
- An interest in working with the elderly and handicapped.
- Be able to read, write, and follow written and oral instructions in English.
- Be able to lift loads of linen and push large linen carts.
- Be able to work holidays, weekends, and all shifts as scheduled.
The Laundry Worker is required to perform the tasks of washing, drying, repairing, distributing, and storing laundry and linens used in the facility. Work will include daily washing chores as well as daily repairing chores.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Report to work when scheduled.
- Carry out and follow all facility personnel policies.
- Perform and satisfactorily complete all daily assignments.
- Remain on the assigned unit, leaving only for break, lunch, or with the express permission of the supervisor.
- Notify the charge nurse of any change in a resident’s condition.
- Participate in all in-service training and meetings as required.
- Follow department safety rules.
- Wear proper uniform as required.
- Provide excellent service by delivering accurately and in the proper amounts.
- Keep the laundry area tidy and clean according to procedures.
- Wash hands frequently and always between handling dirty and clean laundry.
- Follow special procedures for handling contaminated linen.
- Sort and clean all laundries in accordance with standard procedures.
- Inspect and repair damaged linens, towels, or other items which are routinely laundered.
- Pretreat fabrics as necessary.
- Understand and operate laundry equipment for cleaning of the facility’s linens.
- Transfer items from the washing facility to the drying facility.
- Remove items from the dryer.
- Hang finished garments on hangers where appropriate, or fold and stack garments.
- Stock linen carts for hallways.
- Assist with resident transports for scheduled appointments and outings when applicable.
- Report to supervisor for project assignments when completed with assigned areas.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by Laundry Supervisor.
PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS
- Lift requirements
- Laundry Workers are frequently called upon to lift objects up to 10 lbs. during cleaning. Laundry Workers will be frequently called upon to lift linens between 10 and 25 lbs. during cleaning. Laundry Workers will occasionally be called upon to lift items between 25 and 40 lbs. Lifting in excess of 40 lbs. is not required.
- Carry requirements
- Laundry Workers will frequently be called upon to carry objects up to 25 lbs. Laundry Workers will occasionally be called upon to carry between 25 and 40 lbs. Carrying in excess of 40 lbs. is not required.
- Sight requirements
- Laundry Workers are required to have normal vision, as corrected.
- Hearing requirements
- Laundry Workers are required to have a normal range of hearing, as corrected.
- Socialization skills
- Socialization skills are minimal.
- Other physical considerations
- Laundry Workers will frequently be called upon to perform daily duties involving bending, pivoting, squatting, kneeling, and crouching.
